Il Clima   Climate
La circolazione atmosferica è essenzialmente di tipo monsonico e ad essa sono legate le precipitazioni: durante il semestre invernale prevalgono venti di nord- est, asciutti, ma che dopo aver superato il Golfo del Bengala irrorano i Ghati meridionali. Nel semestre estivo prevalgono invece i monsoni di sud- ovest che investono soprattutto il fianco occidentale dell'India ed i versanti meridionali dell'Himalaya provocando intensissime precipitazioni; in media esse sono superiori ai 2000- 3000 mm annui, che nell'Assam possono raggiungere e superare anche i 10000 mm annui (a Calcutta cadono circa 1700 mm, a Bombay 1800, a Port Blair 3000 mm, a Cherrapungi 14 mila mm annui). Solo all'interno del Deccan le piogge sono più scarse (600-700 mm annui). Le temperature, particolarmente in estate, risultano molto elevate (i valori medi di luglio oscillano tra i 26 °C e i 31 °C), mentre quelle invernali raramente scendono al di sotto dei 14 - 15 °C; solo nelle zone himalaiane si hanno valori molto più bassi (9 °C a Shillon in gennaio contro i 14 °C a Dheli e i 26 °C di Trivandrum). Nel complesso i climi dell'India manifestano un carattere prevalentemente tropicale che si accentua maggiormente verso sud; nelle zone himalaiane, invece, il clima risente in maniera notevole delle variazioni altimetriche: oltre i 3500 m si hanno già nevi permanenti.   The atmospheric circulation is essentially influenced by the Monsoons which strongly influence precipitations: during winter months North-East dry winds prevail on the country, but after having crossed the Bengala's Gulf they start blowing on southern Ghaiti. During summer months there are instead monsoons from South-West which particularly influence the occidental sector of India and the Himalaya's southern sectors causing very strong precipitations: these ones are generally about 200-3000mm per year sometimes exceeding 10000mm per year in Assam (in Calcutta rainfalls are about 1700mm, in Bombay 1800mm, at Blair port 3000mm, in Cherrapungi14000mm per year).Just in the inland of Deccan rainfalls are poor (600-700mm per year). Temperatures are generally elevated in summer( the mean temperatures in July oscillate between 26°C to 31°C) and in winter they rarely fall to 14-15°C; just on the Himalayian areas temperatures are lower (9°c in Shillon in January, 14°C in Dheli, 26°C in Trivandrum). In general we can say that India 's climate is tropical and it gets more evident in the South of the country; on the Himalayan areas, instead, the climate is particularly influenced by the different altitudes: here, beyond 3500m, there is permanent snow.
