Il Clima   Climate
Nel complesso il clima britannico si distingue per il suo carattere essenzialmente oceanico, in più favorito dall'influsso benefico della Corrente del Golfo che rende le isole tiepide anche d'inverno. Le temperature invernali, nonostante la latitudine, sono infatti discretamente elevate, mentre le estati sono fresche e le escursioni annue poco sensibili: a Edimburgo si registrano 4 °C in gennaio e 14 °C in luglio, a Londra rispettivamente 5 °C e 17 °C. Londra, il sud-est e l'ovest sono le regioni più calde, mentre il nord è la regione più fredda. Nell'interno in inverno non si scende molto sotto lo zero, in estate non si sale oltre i 30 °C. Il clima non conosce quindi né i rigori degli inverni continentali, né la siccità nei mesi estivi, ma è generalmente fresco e umido. Abbastanza frequente è la formazione di nebbie dovuta soprattutto a contrasti tra masse d'aria di diversa provenienza. Da ovest soffiano venti tiepidi quasi tutto l'anno, che lambendo il mare si arricchiscono d'umidità portando abbondanti piogge sulle regioni occidentali: qui le precipitazioni, che possono superare i 2000 mm in Scozia e nel Galles, sono distribuite in tutti i mesi dell'anno. Le regioni orientali invece sono più asciutte: dai 1200 mm annui di Cardiff si passa agli 800 mm di Edimburgo e ai 600 mm di Londra.
Il clima dell'Irlanda del Nord è tendenzialmente oceanico. 		  The British climate has an essential oceanic character due to influence of the Gulf Stream which keeps warmer the islands even in winter. Winter temperatures , notwithstanding the latitude, are in fact elevated, while summers are cool and the annual temperatures' excursions are sensible; in Edinburgh it has been registered 4°C in January and 14°C in July, in London respectively 5°C and 17°C; the South-East and the West of the country are the hottest areas, while the North is the coldest ones. In the Inland, winter's temperatures never fall to 0°C , summer's ones never decrease to 30°C; that's why the climate doesn't know the rigid continental winters nor the summery droughty, but it is generally cool and humid. . It's quite frequent the presence of fogs due to the meeting of air masses of different origin. Mild winds blow from West all year round and touching the sea they enrich themselves of humidity bringing abundant rains in the Western countries: here precipitations , exceeding 2000mm in Scotland and Wales, are distributed all months of the year. The eastern regions are instead really dry: from 1200mm per year in Cardiff to 800mm in Edinburgh and 600mm in London. Northern Ireland's climate is a typical oceanic one.
