The Chinese climate is particularly influenced by the huge dimensions of the country and by its extremely varied altitude (it goes from -154 m in the Turfan depression to 8848 m on the Everest). As a consequence it exists a wide range of climatic types which have, more or less, just one thing in common: the monsonic regimen of the wind.
In China there's a relevant thermical excursion every year due, above all, to the difference between very low winter temperatures and very hot ones in summer; the average rainfall is concentrated during summer with about 1470 mm.
Temperatures decrease from South to East and, during winter, they go from 15°C in the southern coasts to -30° on the north-eastern extremities next to the Russian borders.
Rain, too, passes from above 2000 mm on the southern coast to the 50mm in Kashgaria with an absolute maximum of 5mm per year in Kaghalik. The Goby desert (in the southern part of Mongolia) is the least pleasant area in China together with the Takla Man desert in East Turchestan; anyway these two deserts are really different from a geological point of view: the first one is a sandy plane on which the wind forms sandy mountains up to 60 m, while the second one is for most part a rocky area. Both of them have, instead, a remarkably droughty and a complete lack of vegetation; their climate is drought and very continental with very cold winters and very hot summers. The widest plane (it's wider than the entire Italian peninsula) covers the east part of China (it's called The Yellow Plane) and is characterised by a warm climate due to the presence of the ocean in the vicinity.
Finally, on the Chinese coasts, which are tall and scattered in the south but low and swampy in the north, there are very strong winds which cause very serious damages: here there are the famous typhoons which generally blow whenever monsons change direction.
