Il clima del vasto altopiano, che si estende ad ovest elevandosi fin oltre i 1000 m, è tropicale ma tuttavia temperato in parte dall'altitudine. Qui le precipitazioni sono abbondanti e concentrate nel periodo marzo- maggio; le temperature sono abbastanza elevate e raggiungono una media annua che si aggira sui 15-19 °C. La grande fossa tettonica che attraversa l'altopiano occidentale, la Rift Valley, è meno umida, pur mantenendo alte temperature annue e non presenta i caratteri desertici del resto del paese, ospitando sia il lago Rodolfo sia altri minori bacini lacustri. Sulle coste dell'oceano e sulle rive del lago Vittoria le temperature diventano più elevate, raggiungendo i 26 °C a Mombasa e i 22 °C a Kimusu. Il 70% del territorio, essendo desertico, è molto arido e presenta temperature altissime di giorno (oltre i 40 °C), che si abbassano velocemente la sera (15 °C).

The climate of this huge tableland, which lies from West reaching 1000m, is tropical but anyway tempered thanks to its altitude. Here precipitations are abundant and concentrated in March and May; temperatures are quite elevated reaching an annual average of 15-19°C. The great tectonic foss crossing the occidental tableland, the Rift Valley, is less humid but it still keeps high annual temperatures and doesn't have any desertic characteristics typical of the rest of the country, having both the Rudolph Lake and other minor lacustral basins. On the ocean's coasts and on the Victoria's lake temperatures gets elevated raising 26°C in Mombasa and 22°C in Kimusu. The 70% of the territory, being desertic, is very arid and shows very high temperatures during the day ( beyond 40°C) which suddenly decrease in the evening (15°C).
