Il Clima   Climate
L'assenza di rilievi particolarmente elevati, ancor più che la posizione geografica dell'Australia, interamente situata nell'emisfero meridionale e attraversata circa a metà dal Tropico del Capricorno, influisce sulle condizioni climatiche. Esse sono caratterizzate da una prevalente aridità, accompagnata a temperature quasi costantemente elevate; solo la parte sud- orientale, con la Tasmania, registra in luglio temperature inferiori a 10 °C, mentre le medie annue superano per più della metà del territorio i 20 °C. La disposizione periferica dei rilievi limita le precipitazioni (oltre 2000 mm) alle fasce costiere, specialmente a nord e a est dove è più evidente l'influsso dei venti di provenienza oceanica (monsoni e alisei) che determinano precipitazioni estive. Le coste meridionali ( a sud-ovest e a sud-est ) sono invece battute dai venti occidentali più attivi soprattutto nei mesi invernali (precipitazioni superiori a 1500 mm). L'interno, occupato dal deserto, oltre a ricevere scarsissime precipitazioni (generalmente estive), è sottoposto a notevoli escursioni termiche giornaliere. Nel complesso i climi dell'Australia rientrano nel dominio della zona torrida (di tipo desertico e comunque arido all'interno, monsonico a nord), salvo le zone meridionali che presentano aspetti temperati (di tipo mediterraneo o addirittura oceanico come nel sud-est ). Le stagioni si susseguono inversamente rispetto all'Europa, per cui l'estate inizia a dicembre e l'inverno a giugno.   The lack of high mountainous reliefs and the geographical position of Austral, set entirely in the southern hemisphere and crossed by half by the Tropic of Capricorn, influence its climatic conditions. These ones are characterised by a high droughty associated with constantly elevated temperatures; just the South -East part, together with Tasmania, has temperatures lower than 10°C in July, while the annual temperature's average exceeds 20°C in most part of the country. The peripherical position of its mountainous reliefs limits precipitation but just on the coast (about 2000m) especially in the North and in the East where it's more evident the presence of winds coming from the ocean (monsoons and trade winds) which influences summer rainfalls. The southern coasts (South-East and South-West) are, instead, characterised by very strong occidental winds during winter (precipitation generally exceeds 1500 mm). The inland of Australia, dominated by the desert , has very poor precipitations (they are anyway concentrated in summer) and it is characterised by evident daily temperature's excursions. From a general point of view , we can easily affirm that Australia has a typical drought climate (it's a desertic one or, actually, it is drought in the inland and monsoonic in the North) except for its southern areas which show a mild climate (mediterrenean or oceanic in the South-east areas). In this country seasons succeed inversely from Europe so that summer begins in December and winter in June.
