Il Clima   Climate
E' possibile individuare nel territorio statunitense quattro principali regioni climatiche: una atlantica, una pacifica e due interne (pianure centrali e altopiani occidentali). La facciata atlantica degli Stati Uniti appare caratterizzata da un clima con notevoli escursioni termiche, ma anche con abbondanti precipitazioni che cadono praticamente
tutti i mesi dell'anno e possono raggiungere i 1500 mm annui. La temperatura tende ad aumentare gradualmente da nord verso sud, dove le escursioni termiche si attenuano: a Boston si registrano -1 °C in gennaio e 23 °C in luglio, mentre a Miami si va dai 19 °C in gennaio ai 27 °C in luglio. Carattere spiccatamente più continentale presentano invece le grandi pianure centrali, dove in estate e in inverno si alternano masse d'aria rispettivamente caldo-umide e freddo-asciutte, per cui assai marcate sono le escursioni termiche. Qui le precipitazioni, che cadono prevalentemente nei mesi estivi, sono abbondanti solo in prossimità del Golfo del Messico (1600 mm annui) e tendono a diradarsi verso nord, dove scendono al di sotto dei 500 mm annui: a Chicago, dove annualmente cadono 850 mm di pioggia, in gennaio si registrano -3 °C ed in luglio 24 °C; a New Orleans, invece, si hanno rispettivamente 13 °C e 28 °C. Risalendo dalle pianure centrali verso le Montagne Rocciose e gli altopiani occidentali, il clima tende a divenire sempre più arido. Nonostante che le precipitazioni siano generalmente inferiori ai 400 mm annui, le massime cime sono costantemente innevate e numerosi sono i ghiacciai che si stendono oltre i 4000 m di altezza. Gli altopiani occidentali, chiusi come sono da ogni parte da elevate barriere montuose, hanno un clima arido e con marcate escursioni termiche sia diurne che annue: a ridosso della Sierra Nevada e verso il Golfo di California essi assumono un aspetto spiccatamente desertico (Deserto Mohawe, Deserto di Gila ecc.). La facciata pacifica, infine, appare contrassegnata da abbondanti precipitazioni, che nella sezione settentrionale superano i 2000 mm annui e si attenuano verso sud, con massimi in autunno e in inverno; deboli sono le escursioni termiche. La California gode praticamente di un clima mediterraneo (a Los Angeles si va dai 13 °C in gennaio ai 23 °C in luglio), mentre più asciutte sono le vallate interne (Sacramento, San Gioacchino ecc.). 		  There are five main climatic regions in this huge country: one is Atlantic, one is Pacific and two are internal ( central plains and western tablelands). The Atlantic area of the United States seems characterised by a climate with strong temperatures' differences and with abundant precipitations falling all year round and reaching 1500mm per year. The temperature tends to gradually increase from North to South, where the temperatures' excursions attenuate: in Boston there are -1°C in January and 23°C in July, while in Miami there are 19°C in January and 27°C in July. The central plains show instead continental characteristics where in summer and in winter generally succeed air masses respectively hot-humid and cold-dry that's why the temperature's excursion is very strong. Here precipitation, concentrated in summer, are abundant near the Mexico's Gulf ( 1600mm per year) and tend to decrease in the north where they fall down to 500mm per year.; in Chicago, where it generally falls 850mm of rain every year, there are just -3°C in January and 24°C in July; in New Orleans, instead, there are respectively 13°C and 28°C. Proceeding from the central plains to the Rocky Mountains and to the western tablelands, the climate tends to became more and more arid. In spite annual precipitations are inferior to 400mm, the summits of the mountains are always whitened with snow and there are a lot of glaciers which can reach 4000 m in altitude.The western tablelands , enclosed by elevated mountainous barriers, have an arid climate with strong temperature's excursions in the day and at night; next to the Sierra Nevada and towards the Californian Gulf , the same tablelands assume a desertic aspect ( Mohawe Desert, , Desert of Gila, etc.). The Pacific area is marked by abundant rainfalls exceeding 2000m per year in the northern sector and tending to attenuate towards the south part with maxima in autumn and in winter; light are the temperature's excursions. California has a mediterrenean climate ( in Los Angeles there are 13°C in January and 23°C in July), while the internal valleys are drier ( Sacramento, Saint John, etc.).).
